Open Greek and Latin Volunteer Program

The Open Greek and Latin Project (OGLP), in collaboration with the Center for Hellenic Studies (CHS), is seeking volunteers to help the First Thousand Years of Greek Project reach its goal! There are approximately 8 million words of Greek remaining to be digitized, a large but achievable task given that nearly 70 million words are already digitized and available on the Scaife Viewer

Dates: Beginning February, 2021
Location: Online

Lace Example

Volunteers will work primarily in Lace, an in-browser text editing environment created by Bruce Robertson (Mount Allison University). Work includes verifying Ancient Greek and Latin texts, as well as supplying citations that correspond to the text’s structure (book, chapter, section, verse, etc.). All the work done by volunteers will be attributed to the individuals who worked on the text once it is available on the Scaife Viewer.

The work will be completely remote and online, beginning in February 2021, with volunteers accepted on a seasonal basis. People familiar with Ancient Greek and Latin are preferred, but anyone who is interested in learning more about digital humanities is welcome! Volunteers will be matched with an experienced trainer and other volunteers from around the world, with an opportunity to meet remotely and become part of the international OGLP and CHS community.

Signups for the next season will begin in June.
