CHS Visiting Researcher | Michael R. Halleran, William & Mary

Michael R. Halleran is a Professor of Classical Studies at William & Mary.  A graduate of Kenyon College (1975), he received his A. M. (1978) and Ph. D. (1981) in Classical Philology from Harvard University and has held academic positions.  His publications include Stagecraft in Euripides (1985), The Heracles of Euripides:  Translated with Introduction, Notes, and Interpretative Essay (1988), and Euripides:  Hippolytus, with Introduction, Translation and Commentary, along with numerous articles and reviews on Greek literature, especially tragedy.  Much of career has been in administration and he served as divisional dean of arts and humanities at the University of Washington, dean of arts and sciences at the University of Miami, and for the past ten years as provost at William & Mary.  His time at CHS marks his re-entry into former life as full-time classicist, and he is working particularly on Euripides’s Alcestis through a new translation with annotation of and several articles and essays on this generically hybrid, enigmatic, and stunning drama.
