The CHS library is pleased to welcome Allison Thornton as its new library assistant. Most recently, she comes to us from St. Joseph County Public Library in South Bend, Indiana, where she was the City Branch Assistant Manager. She has also worked at the Hesburgh Libraries, University of Notre Dame, and at the South Bend History Museum in Indiana.
She is graduating from Indiana University with a master’s degree in library and information science. Her bachelor’s degree was in environmental studies and global studies (double major) from Saint Mary’s College Notre Dame.
In her spare time, Allison is an athlete. Her sports are volleyball and running. She loves to travel. Her favorite country so far is Italy. She has not yet visited Greece. Like many academics and librarians, she is a cat person. She also likes books and classical antiquity. Talks at her school by Emily Wilson, discussing her translation of The Iliad, and by Madeline Miller, the author of The Song of Achilles and Circe, made strong impressions on her. Allison is thrilled to be living in Georgetown and, above all, to be joining Harvard’s Center for Hellenic Studies.
