Berkeley Classics Hosts International Conference on “The Genres of Archaic and Classical Greek Poetry: Theories and Models”

The CHS team is happy to share the news of the International Conference on “The Genres of Archaic and Classical Greek Poetry: Theories and Models”, September 24 through 27. The conference, hosted by the Classics Department at Berkeley, will open with a keynote address by Professor Gregory Nagy, on Thursday, September 24 at 7 p.m. Professor Nagy’s talk is entitled “Genre, Occasion, and Choral Mimesis Revisited.” The conference is open to the public and no registration is required.

“Almost 50 years after the turn to performance and the linkage of genre to occasion, this conference aims to revisit and critically interrogate how we now define genre in relation to archaic and classical Greek poetry.”
