«Η αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά ως περιεχόμενο, στόχος και μέσον παιδείας»
Ομιλήτρια: Άλκηστις Ρόδη, Επίκουρη Καθηγήτρια Αστικού και Πολεοδομικού Σχεδιασμού, Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτόνων, Πανεπιστήμιο Πατρών
Η εκδήλωση θα λάβει χώρα στον Πύργο Βιβλίων της Εθνικής Βιβλιοθήκης της Ελλάδος, Κέντρο Πολιτισμού Ίδρυμα Σταύρος Νιάρχος, στην Αθήνα. Η ομιλία θα γίνει στα Ελληνικά.
Η εκδήλωση πραγματοποιείται με την υποστήριξη της Εθνικής Βιβλιοθήκης της Ελλάδος και του Συλλόγου Αποφοίτων του Πανεπιστημίου Harvard στην Ελλάδα.

Σύνοψη της διάλεξης
Το κτισμένο περιβάλλον αποτελεί φορέα μνήμης που μπορεί να κωδικοποιηθεί ως ιστορία. Ο τρόπος με τον οποίο μαθαίνουμε για αυτό, διδασκόμαστε από αυτό και το αξιοποιούμε για το μέλλον συνεχώς μεταβάλλεται. Οι ποικίλες προσεγγίσεις αποτυπώνονται στην εκπαίδευση· και σήμερα, που η αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά και η τοπική ταυτότητα απειλούνται από το τεράστιο κύμα της ανάπτυξης και της παγκόσμιας αρχιτεκτονικής εξομοίωσης, την κλιματική αλλαγή, τον τουρισμό, τις συγκρούσεις και τον εξτρεμισμό που καταστρέφουν μνημεία όπως αυτά της Παλμύρας και χρησιμοποιούν άλλα όπως της Αγίας Σοφίας για προπαγάνδα, η εκπαίδευση πρέπει να επαναπροσδιορισθεί.
Γιατί πρέπει να μαθαίνουμε για την αρχιτεκτονική κληρονομιά; Γιατί κάποια κτήρια είναι πιο σημαντικά από άλλα; Πότε και πώς η γνώση του αρχιτεκτονικού παρελθόντος εμποδίζει την καινοτόμο δράση; Πότε και πώς προωθεί τη δημιουργικότητα; Πώς η νέα τεχνολογία μπορεί να συμβάλει στα παραπάνω;
Ποια πολιτική και ακαδημαϊκή ηγεσία και ποιο τεχνικό προσωπικό μπορούν να διαπραγματευθούν τη συνύπαρξη αλλαγής και διατήρησης ως χαρακτηριστικό του μέλλοντος;
Σύντομο βιογραφικό σημείωμα της Άλκηστης Ρόδη
Η δρ Άλκηστις Ρόδη είναι μόνιμη επίκουρη καθηγήτρια στο Τμήμα Αρχιτεκτόνων του Πανεπιστημίου Πατρών. Σπούδασε στο ΕΜΠ (1994) και το Harvard Graduate School of Design (MAUD, 1997). Απέκτησε Διδακτορικό από το Delft University of Technology (2008). Το 2018-9 ήταν Επισκέπτρια Ακαδημαϊκός στο Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
Έχει ασκήσει την αρχιτεκτονική και τον αστικό σχεδιασμό στις ΗΠΑ και την Ελλάδα. Η έρευνά της επικεντρώνεται στην αστική μορφολογία σε σχέση με σύγχρονες αστικές έννοιες. Στο πλαίσιο αυτό εισήγαγε το 2015 την έννοια του ‘Bricolage Urbanism’. Έχει δημοσιεύσει το βιβλίο Modern Architectures in History: Greece (Reaktion, 2013) με τον Αλέξανδρο Τζώνη και έχει επιμεληθεί και συνεισφέρει σε συλλογικούς τόμους. Το ερευνητικό και σχεδιαστικό έργο της έχει δημοσιευθεί σε διεθνή περιοδικά και έχει λάβει διεθνείς διακρίσεις.

Lecturer: Alcestis Rodi, Assistant professor of Urban Design and Planning, Department of Architecture, University of Patras
The event will be held at the Book Castle of the National Library of Greece, Stavros Niarchos Foundation Cultural Center, in Athens. The lecture will be delivered in Greek.
The event is organized with the support of the National Library of Greece and the Harvard Club of Greece.

Synopsis of the lecture
The built environment is a carrier of memory which can be codified into history. The way we learn about it, we learn from it, and employ it for the future is constantly changing. These various approaches are reflected in education; and nowadays, that architectural heritage and local identity are threatened by the huge wave of development and global architectural assimilation, climate change, tourism, conflicts and extremism destroying monuments such as those of Palmyra and using others such as Hagia Sophia as propaganda, education needs to be redefined.
Why should we learn about architectural heritage? Why are some buildings more significant than others? When and how can knowledge of the architectural past get in the way of innovative action? When and how does it promote creativity? How can new technology contribute to the above?
What political and academic leadership and what technical personnel can negotiate the coexistence of change and preservation as a characteristic of the future?
Alcestis Rodi’s brief resume
Dr Alcestis Rodi is a tenured assistant professor at the Department of Architecture, University of Patras. She studied architecture at the School of Architecture, National Technical University, Athens (1994), before completing her Master’s of Architecture in Urban Design at the Harvard Graduate School of Design (1997). In 2008 she received her PhD in Engineering from Delft University of Technology. In 2018-9, she was offered an appointment as a Visiting Scholar in the Department of Architecture at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT).
She practiced architecture and urban design in USA and Greece. Her current research and recent academic publications focus on urban morphology and contemporary urban concepts. Within this framework she introduced in 2015 the concept of ‘Bricolage Urbanism’. She has published the book Modern Architectures in History: Greece (Reaktion Books, 2013) with Alexander Tzonis. She was the editor and a contributor to several collective volumes. Her design work and academic articles have been published in international periodicals and have received international awards.
