This week, Dr. Jan Haywood will be staying at the CHS and using the library. Dr. Haywood is a Teaching Fellow in Ancient History at the University of Leicester, having completed a PhD on Herodotean intertextuality in 2013. Currently, Dr. Haywood is working on a revised version of his thesis for publication with Cambridge University Press, as well as a co-authored volume on the reception of Homer’s Iliad with Dr. Naoise Mac Sweeney for Bloomsbury.
While at the CHS, Dr. Haywood will be researching the different kinds of intertextual engagement with the Homeric poems in Euripides, especially The Trojan Women. He will be investigating the way in which the Iliad is read through the prism of the Peloponnesian War and by a poet who looks to challenge traditional Homeric storylines.
