CHS Visiting Scholar | Pietro Liuzzo, Networking Coordinator / Project Manager / Research Associate, Department of Ancient History and Epigraphy, Universität Heidelberg

Versione 2This week, Dr. Pietro Liuzzo, Networking Coordinator / Project Manager / Research Associate, Department of Ancient History and Epigraphy, Universität Heidelberg, will be staying at the CHS and using the library. Currently, Liuzzo is working on the creation of a natively online, linked and editable edition of The Bibliotheca Historica by Diodorus Siculus. His objectives are as followed: the first is to build on the existing tools and enhance them to create a rich and functional digital edition of Diodorus, and secondly to use this edition as a collaboration of all collections of the work itself, giving the right attention to the Byzantine period’s production of manuscripts, the tradition of fragments, and the study of fragments of lost historians as well. Diodorus, Liuzzo believes, is a unique case which would allow for different types of annotations to serve one another as forecasted by the scholars of the semantic web. Thus evaluation of the text can be found in both manuscript tradition and analysis of the fragments of historians.
While at the CHS, Dr. Liuzzo looks forward to gaining access to the printed and digital collections our library can offer him. He believes that the Center is the perfect place to test and evaluate his prototype not only for the access to our collections, but also because he can gain critically important feedback from our scholars and fellows, who are like-minded in intellectual and classical pursuit.
Dr. Pietro Liuzzo is visiting under a grant, awarded to researchers around the world that could benefit from access to the Center’s library resources and from consulting and working with fellows on a short-term basis. The CHS is currently accepting applications for visits from January 27th to May 29th, 2016. To learn more, visit the CHS website.
