On October 16th the CHS will host Harvard and DC area faculty and graduate students from departments of Classics and of Philosophy for the 2nd DC Area Ancient Philosophy Workshop, organized by Peter Osorio (Harvard) and Rachel Singpurwalla (University of Maryland). The all-day workshop will comprise three papers, followed by respondents and discussion, with Sara Magrin (University of Pittsburgh) as keynote. The workshop aims to showcase and develop new work in the history of ancient Greek and Roman philosophy. This year’s talks will be:
- Sara Magrin (University of Pittsburgh), “Epictetus on Craft and Self-Interest,” with response by Peter Osorio (Harvard University)
- Cristina Ionescu (Catholic University of America), “On Inner Life and the Metaphysical Horizon of Plato’s Theaetetus,” with response by Ana Clara Nina (Catholic University of America)
- Rachel Singpurwalla (University of Maryland, College Park), “Plato on Psychological Freedom,” with response by Catherine McKeen (Bennington College; 2026–2027 CHS Fellow)
Along with comments from respondents, pre-read drafts of these works in progress will be circulated to invited participants.
