In addition to current programs, the Center for Hellenic Studies is also commited to providing resources for self-guided learners and independent educators. Production in the following areas is ongoing, and we encourage visitors to check back in with us to follow our progress. The following resources are available.
CHS Essential Videos
The CHS Essentials video series features excerpts that have been selected because of their succinct focus on key concepts. Each video seeks to provide a topic overview in under 7 minutes.
Introduction to Ancient Greek
The Introduction to Ancient Greek videos cover basic concepts of ancient Greek and introduce key resources for the study of the language.
Learning Ancient Greek
Featuring Leonard Muellner, CHS Director of IT and Publications, and student Belisi Gillespie, the Learning Ancient Greek series provides a guided introduction to the ancient Greek language. Videos correspond with the units in Hansen and Quinn’s Greek: An Intensive Course.
Reading Homeric Poetry
The Reading Homeric Poetry series, hosted by Claudia Filos and Allie Marbry, follows Gregory Nagy, Leonard Muellner, and Douglas Frame as they read passages from the Iliad and Odyssey, translating from the original Greek as they go. This process serves as the foundation for focused philological discussions and reflection.
Thematic Reading
The text-based Thematic Reading section consists of content gathered from a variety of Center publications and other resources, grouped around a topic or theme, and offered as a resource for creating context for that particular subject area.
Open House Interviews
Recorded for the Hour 25 community, the CHS Open House series features conversations with researchers in classical studies and related fields, covering a wide range of topics from Greek participles to cartooning.
Sponsored Courses
The Sponsored Course section presents course offerings from the Sunoikisis consortium and HarvardX sponsored by the CHS and available, either wholly or in part, for interested individuals.
