This week, Bárbara Álvarez Rodríguez, Clarín-COFUND Postdoctoral Fellow in the Classics Department at Stanford University, will be staying at the CHS and using the library. Currently, Álvarez Rodríguez is working on her postdoctoral project, namely Exclusion and marginalization in the Greek epic. A study on the relations with the otherness in the Iliad. Using the Iliad, this project specifically interprets the roles of characters and populations, establishes the limits of said peoples, and highlights the importance of Ancient Greek culture and the treatment of the otherness in connection to modern Western culture and alterity issues. While at the CHS, Álvarez Rodríguez plans to take full advantage of our library’s resources with a focus on multidisciplinary research; she also looks forward to exchanging conversation on Homer with our current residential fellows–an activity she calls “one of her favorite.”
Bárbara Álvarez Rodríguez is visiting under a grant, awarded to scholars around the world that could benefit from access to the Center’s library resources and from consulting and working with fellows on a short-term basis. The CHS is currently accepting applications for visits from August 31st to December 18th, 2015. To learn more, visit the CHS website.
