Visiting scholar at CHS | Dr. Jessica Piccinini, Onassis Fellowship Recipient and lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Vienna

This week, Dr. Jessica Piccinini, Onassis Fellowship Recipient and lecturer in Ancient History at the University of Vienna, will be staying at the CHS and using the library. While at the CHS, Piccinini aims to complete her book, titled Ancient Religious Mobility: The Oracular Shrine of Dodona. This work is to be a comprehensive study of the shrine of Dodona and will include a diachronic virtual map of the visiting consultants and devotees, dated from the 9th century BC to the 3rd century AD. Using the very recent publication of an entire collection of new oracular tablets from Dodona, Piccinini strives to amplify and enhance the excellent research she’s done for her DPhil thesis. These tablets will provide her with new information as to who and why one went to the oracle, and will simultaneously operate to enrich and oppose the scenario she’s outlined in her thesis. Piccinini looks forward to discussing her project with the current fellows at the CHS, who share similar scholastic interests.
Dr. Jessica Piccinini is visiting under a grant, awarded to scholars around the world that could benefit from access to the Center’s library resources and from consulting and working with fellows on a short-term basis.
