IMG_0759_bigApplications are now live for summer 2017 internship opportunities at the Center for Hellenic Studies in Washington, DC! Current undergraduates from colleges and universities in the United States may apply. Any concentration or major is eligible; but a strong interest in Ancient Greek or Latin is preferred. For the Publications Internship, some experience with Ancient Greek is required. Applicants must demonstrate the internship’s relevance to their studies and future career plans.

The CHS is offering three undergraduate internship programs at the CHS campus in Washington, DC:

Sunoikisis Seminar Internship

Dates: June 1-19, 2017
Deadline for Applications: February 15, 2017
Deadline for Recommendations: February 20, 2017

Every year in June, the Sunoikisis faculty gather at the CHS in Washington, DC to develop the upcoming fall semester courses. The CHS is seeking two interns to manage the Sunoikisis course-planning and faculty development seminars.

The interns’ responsibilities include:

  • Phase 1: Conducting research and preparing assignments in order to contribute to conversations concerning the design of the courses; creating and editing content on websites.
  •  Phase 2: Taking notes and providing general assistance during the seminar sessions and participating in the seminar; assisting with logistical arrangements that pertain to accommodations and meals for the participants; cleaning up after breaks and dinners.
  • Phase 3: Processing videos and creating podcasts from the seminar sessions; creating and editing content on websites.

The interns will reside on the CHS campus and will receive a stipend of $1,500. Interns will be responsible for travel to and from Washington, DC.

CIC Seminar Internship

Dates: July 20-August 2, 2017

The CHS is seeking two interns to manage the annual Council of Independent Colleges (CIC) seminar. On July 24-30, 2017, faculty from CIC member institutions will meet to extend their knowledge of Ancient Greece and to develop strategies for incorporating ancient sources into their courses.

The interns’ responsibilities include:

  • Phase 1 (July 21-24): Conducting research and preparing assignments in order to contribute to conversations concerning the design of the courses; creating and editing content on websites.
  • Phase 2 (Jul7 25-29): Taking notes and providing general assistance during seminar sessions and participating in the seminar; assisting with logistical arrangements that pertain to accommodations and meals for the participants; cleaning up after breaks and dinners.
  • Phase 3 (July 31-August 1): Processing videos and creating podcasts from the seminar sessions; creating and editing content on websites.

Interns will reside on the CHS campus and will receive a stipend of $1,300. Interns are responsible for travel to and from Washington, DC.

Internship in Publications

Dates: June 1-July 31, 2017

The CHS is seeking two interns to work for eight weeks in Washington, DC on the Free First Thousand Years of Greek, a self-standing subset of the Open Greek and Latin Project.

No prior technical skills are needed. Instruction will be provided on site.

Interns will reside on the CHS campus and will work approximately 20 hours per work, at an hourly rate of $12. Interns will be responsible for getting to and from Washington, DC, meals (excluding lunch on weekdays), and incidentals.
